Stories from the July Repair Cafe
It was a quiet Repair Cafe this month with so many people away, but we still made the best of it with a few novel fixes.
Electronics are what we see most of, and this event was no exception. But there was one special thing this event…
We worked on our first “car” repair! 🚗
Sometimes, even our volunteers need things fixed, and when there’s downtime during events, it’s a good opportunity to work on an important project. That’s how our volunteer Ondrej ended up installing a car light in his own vehicle!
Don’t forget — we have a nice new coffee machine now. Come get a cup at future events ☕ And thanks to our visitors, as always, for your generous donations!
Psst… let’s talk about teaching you to repair!
This year, we’ve expanded our capacity and reach by collaborating with Bronx 5200. We hope to reach new audiences but also widen the types of tools we use to help you fix your items.
Come curious. We love answering your questions ✅
Remember, Repair Cafe has volunteers of all ages and nationalities. If you’re interested in helping spread the right to repair movement, don’t hesitate to reach out at info@repaircafeodense.dk 📧
🆕 International repair news
Here we’re debuting a new section for our blogs, where we will share international repair news.
👕 Have you heard that France decided to pay citizens to repair their clothes, instead of throwing them away? Fashion is one of the most polluting industries when it comes to dyes and water use, but it also creates a lot of waste: by some estimates, 92 million tonnes of textile waste each year.
🗑 Speaking of which, Denmark has just begun sorting textile waste at the kommune level. In Odense, we can sort textile waste via the “bulk waste scheme” (storskraldsordning). If you begin to see a bag for textile waste at the containers near where you live, now you know why!
