Repair Café Recap - October 2021

By Chloe’ Skye

It’s November and we’re coming up on our last event of the year! Before we get to that, let’s talk about our October 31 event, plus our winter-proofing giveaway.

With winter coming, this month it was our mission to help you get your bike ready for colder weather…

October 2021 stats

The Halloween version of RCO was dedicated to bikes – and our visitors delivered. Half of all the items we saw on October 31 were bike-related!

Items seen:

  • 🚲 Bike shift, brakes, dynamo, tires, and cranks
  • 🔧 Various bike adjustments
  • ⌨ Commodore 64
  • 🧥 Coat zipper
  • 🧵 Sewing machine
  • 🍎 Blender
  • 💻 Laptop
  • 🧘‍♀️ Hoverboard

Items fixed / problem found: 10 of 12

Success rate: 8️⃣3️⃣%

We were able to help our visitors in almost all cases. A couple items required extra parts or referral to a repair service instead.

Stories from the October Repair Café

Bikes were at the center of this event!

We adjusted a cyclist’s bike shift, another’s weak brakes, mounted bike dynamos for two people’s front and rear lights, fixed low air pressure in another cyclist’s front bike tire, and advised a final cyclist on a solution for their loose bike crank.

We also worked on a couple items related to clothing repair. One woman’s coat zipper got fixed, and we referred her to a repair shop to help fix the thread jamming in her sewing machine.

As for electronics, we saw a variety. We fixed one woman’s small blender and none other than a hoverboard!

A man brought us a laptop that was too old to fix, but we were able to recover his hard drive for him.

Finally, we saw a Commodore 64 and fixed a problem related to it short circuiting. Never heard of a C64? It’s an 8-bit computer introduced in 1982. Cool, huh?

Who won the giveaway? 🙌

In honor of our special bike event, we hosted a winter-proofing giveaway.

The lucky cyclist this time is Jonas Nyrup! Jonas now has 500 DKK to prepare his bike for winter.

Last event of the year

Our last event of the year is on November 28th. Don’t miss it!

And make sure to bring any winter clothing or coats that might need repairing. We’ll be ready for them 🧵

There will be lots of great events, including themed repair events, in 2022, so stay tuned!
